FYI: This information is typical and often reliable, but please confirm with your trainer and with the individual Federations about rules and regulations and... expenses.
Federation Entry Fees
Most Federations have a one time yearly Membership fee ($80-$120). You also pay a fee for each catagory you enter into (ie. Figure Short, Figure Novice and Bikini = 3 catagories to pay, usually 50-100 each). Your trainer will help you determine which catagory you best fit in. If you dont have a trainer then ask the Federation owner for advice on where you will be most suitable for his or her show.
Suppliments
$$$ Budget for this! ask your trainer what to expect during the prep period before and after your show.
"The basic supplements are: whey protein powder, glutamine and bcaa's. Other supplements are usually implemented as a person diets down, to compensate for low carbs".
Posing Clinics
Most Federations offer a one or two day clinic. Some trainers and clubs will offer a free session if you are a member. Dont skimp here. Each federation has a different requirement of poses and walking T zones. Learn them early in the game so that you are not thinking about where to walk and how to turn. You will be focused on your stage presence so that you shine on stage, not look like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming car ;)
Tanning
"Do-it-yourself application", usually done by a "good friend" or your trainer will offer to do this, most inexpensive but labor intensive. For Do-It-Yourself, purchase your tanning lotions early. GNC and other Suppliment stores will carry Protan or JanTana products but inventory can be limited.
"Professional Spray Tanning": Most convenient and a guaranteed to look amazing on stage. Also if you do choose to hire the sponsored spray taning company to go with they offer onsite touch ups at the show.
See Link for a List of reputable Spray tanning companies.
Suit Requirements
Each Federation has their rules... 50% bum coverage for Bikini's, all bikinis should have a back strap and not a criss cross strap.
Clear 4-5" heel shoes (pic to come and where to buy them)
Hair Don't forget your hair has to be as big and beautiful as your look. dont come out with a Dolly Parton updo, most federations like the windy bed head look. Professionally curled or straightened with lots of body.
Make-Up Unless you are comfortable with the application of make up and feel you can achieve the "Stage Look" I would suggest booking a make up artist for your big day. One less thing for you to worry about. This artist can be the sponsored artist of the event (which almost guarantees you quality and onsite service). Or you can bring a friend, or book another local Hair and Make up artist. See below for a list of Make Up artists registered with Daydreams.
Shoes
Shoe requirements are the Clear "Stripper Shoes" . Most require 1/4" heigh front, see pics below, some Bikini Model Searches will allow a platform style. Prices are anywhere from $60 to $120. Try to stay away from ankle straps as they cut the leg visually on stage.
Flat Bottom Shoe:Platform Shoe:
Some locations to find these shoes, www.snazz77.com or in Ottawa at the AFS
Hotel
(other tips if you are staying in a hotel... bring sheet from home to cover bed as not to stain the sheets)
